A Tragic Weekend: Two Fatal Pedestrian Accidents on Long Island

Goldstein and Bashner | Long Island Pedestrian Accident Lawyer

It seems we are hearing about more and more pedestrians being hit on Long Island. The roads are dangerous with traffic moving fast and both drivers and pedestrians not paying attention. Over the weekend we heard of not one, but two separate pedestrian accidents, both having fatal results.

The first was Friday night in East Farmingdale. A North Amityville man was struck and killed by a car while crossing Route 110, according to police. Wilfrid Bien-Aime, 68, was crossing 110 west to east about 5:50 p.m. when he was struck by a 2011 Nissan heading south just south of Great Neck Road, police said. Bien-Aime was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, Abraham Sanabria, 55, also of North Amityville, was not injured and stayed at the scene, police said. The Nissan was impounded for a safety check, and the investigation is ongoing, police said. No charges have been filed.

The second accident occurred early Sunday morning in Dix Hills. The pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle while crossing Deer Park Avenue at the corner of MacNeice Place at 6:20am. The driver, 54-year-old John Capalbo of Dix Hills, was not injured. Second Squad detectives impounded the vehicle, are continuing the investigation.

There are three scenarios that can happen with these types of accidents. Those that are truly accidents, where the driver was not negligent. Perhaps the person jay-walked across the street, was texting on their phone while walking or drunk and not paying attention to oncoming traffic. The family members don’t see it that way, and sue you. In those situations you will want a good defense attorney who will fight to protect you and your assets. Another scenario might be where you are charged by police because you were found to be negligent or broke several traffic laws. Either way, we can put you in touch with our top defense attorney in those situations.

The third scenario involves wrongful death or serious injuries. If you were a pedestrian hit by a vehicle and sustained serious injuries that you believe was through no fault of your own we can help. If you lost a loved one that was struck by a vehicle due to someone else’s negligence please contact us to see how we can help you. You may have a wrongful death case. We will go over the accident y.details, answer any questions you might have and try to help you gain justice and closure. Call 516-203-4857 today.

Goldstein and Bashner When it comes to the capacity to generate profound upheaval and anguish in the lives of those involved, almost nothing rivals a serious personal injury event stemming from the negligence of others. The physical suffering, financial pressures and family strain that so often result from such circumstances can seem insurmountable unless justice and accountability can be obtained from those responsible.
