Ronkonkoma Man Charged with DWI- Violation of Leandra’s Law, Crashes His Car with Daughters Inside

Ronkonkoma DWI

It was only a few weeks ago that we blogged about a woman who broke Leandra’s Law because she drove her children to school while drunk. Here we are again, blogging this time about a father who, according to authorities, drove drunk and crashed his vehicle while his two daughters were in the car. This just happened Friday night in Dix Hills.

Suffolk police say Mauricio Zamora, of Ronkonkoma, crashed his 2014 Honda Accord into the roadway median of the Westbound Long Island Expressway, between Exits 52 and 51, with his daughters, ages 9 and 11, in the vehicle at 10:24 p.m.

The children were transported to Huntington Hospital via Dix Hills Fire and Rescue and luckily only sustained minor injuries from this ordeal. It could have been so much worse. While this case only involved the driver’s own kids, I often hear of parents car-pooling and taking turns driving each other’s kids to school. It’s so important to make sure the driver is not under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Don’t let your children be a victim of someone else’s reckless behavior.

Zamora is being charged with driving while intoxicated under Leandra’s Law and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
