If you have been hurt in a restaurant read the following and see if your injuries were caused by one of these problems that frequently occur at restaurants:

In Long Island and the entire New York Metropolitan area there are tens of thousands of restaurants. We recieve dozens of calls from people each month that get hurt in fine and sometimes not so fine eateries here in New York. It could be a full dining restaurant, diner, fast food, pizza, or even a nite club. We even get calls from people who get hurt while eating at a strip club! It does not matter the same rules apply. The following is the list of items that you should be conscious of when visiting your next restaurant.

1. The chair from hell- Not very common but does happen. You sit down at your table and your chair collapses under you. Keep in mind that a retaurant owes its patrons a duty to make sure that the chairs that they sit on our safe and free of any problems. It really does not matter if the client is a lightweight or a heavyweight. What may proove to be difficult is showing that the restaurant knew of the problem with the chair.

2. The lights are on but .. The case where somebody falls because of inadequate lighting. This is not about intimate dining and dim lighting. That's ok. What's not ok is not being able to see your way to your table or to the bathroom. There must be enough lighting so that when you are walking you can see ahead of you.

3. Slip sliding away- This is probably the most common complaint we hear. Garbage, liquids(of all kinds) and all kinds of food can cause real problems when left on the floor of a restaurant. It goes without saying that a restaurant has to make sure that the floors are clean and that there is nothing that can interfere with the safe walkway for a customer. The issue that causes problems is determining how long the food or liquid was on the floor and was it enough time for the restraunt to have cleaned.

4. Hold on for dear life- This may be the second most common complaint we get for restaurant accidents. No handrails or only a partial handrail for stairs going up or down to another level. These cases also present the best theories for an injured party on a restaurant injury case. Most of the time handrails are covered by a local building code and if there is a violation it could be very benefical for a victim of a restaurant accident.

5. Sidewalks and parking lots- The restaurant is not only responsible for the inside of its premises but also for the sidewalk in front of its premises as well as any parking area that is part of the property. In that regard the area must be kept free of broken sidewalks and pavement as well as proper lighting in those areas.
