I want to change my lawyer. What steps do I have to take?

A: This may be one of the most common questions we get. First and most impotantly if you are not happy with your lawyer for whatever reason you can terminate his or her services without notice. Second, you do not have to pay your new lawyer another fee. All lawyers who work on your case, if they are entitled to a fee, will share one fee between the. For example, if your case settled for $9,000.00 and there were no expenses and there is a one-third fee all attorneys will come to an understanding(or a court will decide) how much each lawyer will get. Third, you do not have to fire your lawyer. You never have to talk to him or her again. Your new lawyer will send your old lawyer a letter and they will(hopefully) work it out. Fourth, there should not be any delay in the processing of your case. If both lawyers are civil then your old lawyer will send the file to the new lawyer and thats it!

Remember you as the client are in charge. You are the boss and the lawyer works for you. If you don't like your lawyer because he does not return your calls or he talks down to you or you just don't think he is doing a good job then its over. At the end of the day you need only to explain your actions to one person-you! If you retain somebody your not happy with its your fault.
