On Feb 6, 2017 reports of a wrong-way driver on a Long Island parkway came in to State Police. The driver, a woman in her early 50's was driving northbound in the southbound lanes of the Wantagh Parkway. Eventually she went onto the Northern State Parkway, again heading the wrong direction. She was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes. State troopers made numerous attempts to block the vehicle as it came towards them. Unfortunately the driver drove past them and hit a second vehicle head on. Multipple exits on the Northern State Parkway were closed.
Wrong-Way Driver Allegedly Intoxicated
Christine A. Shefts of East Meadow, was allegedly intoxicated according to an investigation by the troopers. She was arrested for driving while intoxicated and is being arraigned from her hospital bed today. This accident could have been so much worse. The driver of the second vehicle suffered a minor hand injury, but easily could have been killed.
