Over 100 DWI Arrests on Long Island over Holiday Weekend

Despite repeated warnings of police checkpoints and crackdowns, authorities around Long Island arrested at least 122 drunken drivers over the Memorial Day weekend.

In addition to monitoring road traffic, Suffolk County set up checkpoints in the waterways for boaters and used helicopters to help both land and sea patrols monitor drunk driving incidents.

According to the Long Island Press, Nassau County police arrested 53 people for driving while intoxicated over the holiday weekend while Suffolk County police arrested 46 suspects for DWI and driving while ability impaired. In addition, New York State Police charged 12 drivers with DWI and police forces on the Island's East End made over a dozen arrests.
