A man was killed and three others injured in a single-car crash in Westbury early Saturday morning.
According to Nassau County Police, Michael Deveny, 33, of Massapequa, had been driving a 1998 Nissan Altima eastbound on School Street at approximately 4:45 a.m. when the car swerved into a utility pole then struck a tree and a stop sign. During the crash, Deveny was thrown from his vehicle causing him to be fatally injured. Deveny was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
The three passengers who were in the vehicle at the time of the fatal accident include two men and a woman, had to be extracted from the vehicle by Westbury firefighters and Nassau police’s Emergency Service Unit.
All three were transported to area hospitals to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Their identities have not been released.
Investigators are uncertain what caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
Whenever someone is hurt in an accident, no matter who is at fault, under New York law, you are entitled to just compensation. Such compensation is for any medical expenses, lost wages for the time that you are hurt and unable to work as part of our state’s no-fault insurance that all drivers are required by law to have. In order to receive compensation for pain and suffering that may be long term, however, you must bring a legal action in court.
