Two Long Island Pedestrians Struck—Same Time, Different Towns

Posted on Jan 31, 2013

At 6:26, a pedestrian was struck in Baldwin on Grand Avenue between Seaman and Lincoln Avenues, according to Nassau police. The pedestrian was conscious and has been taken to a nearby hospital, police said.

Also at 6:26 p.m., a pedestrian was hit in West Babylon on Straight Path near 12th Street in West Babylon, Suffolk police said. He was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip with serious injuries, police said.

We’ve been reporting on what seems like a growing number of pedestrian accidents. The Department of Transportation has taken notice and has been making improvements that include installing countdown clocks for pedestrians at numerous intersections, allowing them more time and widening intersections. The greatest improvements are being made to Hempstead Turnpike, one of the most dangerous roads in the tri-state area.
