Two-Car Collision in the Bronx

Posted on Jun 21, 2016

One person is dead and six additional people were injured after a two-car collision in the Bronx early Sunday morning.

According to police, the accident happened at approximately shortly before 5:00 a.m. when Michael Rhone, 39, was driving eastbound on E. 219th St. in a Cadillac SUV when a BMW traveling at a high rate of speed broadsided him at the intersection of Bronxwood Avenue in Williamsbridge.

Investigators say that the force of the collision flipped the SUV onto its side while the BMW became a tangled mass of metal.

Emergency crews transported Rhone and two of his passengers - a 16-year-old boy and 30-year-old man to Jacobi Medical center.  Also transported to Jacobi Medical Center were the driver of the BMW and a 29-year-old female passenger.

Rhone died as the result of the injuries he sustained in the accident.  The BMW driver, 28, and his passenger, neither of whom were identified, were both listed in critical condition. The other two victims in Rhone’s car are listed in stable condition.

Police said that two other men, ages 20 and 28, also in the Cadillac, were taken to an area hospital but their conditions were not released. The accident is still currently under investigation by the NYPD’s collision investigation squad. So far no arrests have been made.
