Whenever a crash blocks a major traffic artery, it makes the news. Everyone wants to know where the delay came from. Yet often a long delay is linked with a crash. Before you get angry at the latest traffic jam, remember that someone might have gotten injured or killed in the accident.
Both of those things happened in a recent crash on the Cross Bronx Expressway. Three were killed and five were injured in a chain-reaction crash. A semi truck stopped suddenly near the expressway. The pickup truck behind the truck also had to stop fast in response. But the trailer behind them couldn’t stop in time and smashed the pickup truck under the first semi truck. It also hit another vehicle. All three people in the front of the pickup truck died. Two people in the back of the cab were seriously injured. The other injured individuals were from the other car that was struck.
No alcohol was involved in the accident and all of the drivers had valid licenses and clean records. Traffic was backed up for four miles before the bridge into New Jersey while the investigation took place. It is unknown why the first tractor trailer suddenly stopped.
We hope that the trucking companies involved in this crash take responsibility and help cover the medical and final expenses of the people hurt and killed. However, if they do not, then justice must be sought. If you have been injured in a commercial trucking accident and you live on Long Island, contact Goldstein & Bashner today for a free consultation.
