Staten Island Hit-and-Run Accident

Posted on Dec 01, 2009

A Staten Island couple were walking across the street to their church for a Thanksgiving eve service when they were struck by a vehicle and killed. Mr. Sabados, 78, and Mrs. Sabados, 77, were both taken to Staten Island University Hospital. Mr. Sabados died within 45 minutes of the accident, Mrs. Sabados died early the next morning. Mr. Sabados was a retired pharmacist and his wife worked a local college. Both were well known to the community and will be missed by all that knew them. Allmir Lekperic was driving his Ford Econoline van when he hit the couple as they crossed the street to enter their church. He turned himself into the police the day after the accident. His license has been suspended at least 29 times since 2006 and has been pulled over for not wearing a seat belt and driving while talking on his cell phone numerous times.
