Older Man Faints, Struck by MTA Train

Posted on Feb 09, 2017
MTA tarinMillions of people ride the New York subway system every day. New Yorkers are aware of the dangers of using the system, but accidents do still happen. It’s one thing to have a derailment, but it’s an entirely different situation when a would-be passenger breaks the rules or is struck by a freak accident.

One such freak accident happened recently. An older gentleman was waiting for the No. 6 train. He had just purchased a drone from a store. Suddenly he felt faint and collapsed on the platform. His legs were crushed by an oncoming train.

Good Samaritans at the scene pulled the man from the wreck and called for assistance. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital where he is expected to survive. The motorman did try to slow the train down.

The drone was found in its box on the tracks during the investigation.

This is the second time in a few days that someone was struck by a train on the platform. In the earlier case, a man was killed when he leaned too far over the platform to pick up a backpack.
