Officers Rush in to Help Burning Vehicle

Posted on Feb 02, 2017
roundaboutThe actions of bystanders in an accident can mean the difference between life and death. Pulling someone from a burning vehicle is a brave and dangerous action, but it saved the life of an off-duty police officer. Unfortunately, another passenger was so badly burned that officials couldn’t identify the gender of the body.

The accident happened at a roundabout on City Island Road in the Bronx. For reasons unknown, the muscle car crashed into the middle of the roundabout and burst into flames. Two police officers that were on the way to a firing range saw the flames and sprung into action. The driver is in critical condition for trauma and severe burns on both legs. The officers who helped had to be treated for smoke inhalation.

Other officers heard about the incident and went to visit the injured officer at the hospital. It is unknown what caused the original crash, but an accident investigation team is on the case.

Cars bursting into flame after a crash is a relatively uncommon occurrence. You usually need speed or a faulty vehicle for it to happen. Regardless of the reason, we hope that the families involved in this crash are able to get some sort of compensation.
