At a July Fourth party, a 36-year Long Island resident was setting off fireworks when one of the skyrockets exploded before the man was able to move out of the way. The firework explosion blew off the man's arm. Party-goers and several neighbors tried to preserve the man's arm in ice, however, after receiving treatment at the Nassau University Medical Center, doctors explained that they were unable to reattach the arm. Doctors stated that the limb was unfortunately too damaged. One close friend added, "the accident shows the destructive force of fireworks."
