A horrific accident involving six cars and a dump truck has ended in three people losing their lives on a Long Island Expressway exit ramp on Wednesday morning.
Authorities say that Michael Fabre, 25, was out with a carload of friends following a birthday party when the vehicle, exiting the Expressway at a high rate of speed, struck a guardrail. The vehicle was nearly torn in half by the force of the impact ejected Fabre and two of the passengers.
The accident caused a chain reaction crash that involved a dump truck and five additional vehicles. Six people were injured in the accident including two additional passengers inside the Infiniti.
The two additional fatalities in the accident have been identified as Christina Formato, 24, and Giovanny Sanchez, 24. All three victims were from Queens and were declared dead at the scene.
The two surviving passengers inside the Infiniti were transported to Elmhurst Hospital Center. One is currently listed in stable condition, while the second is listed in critical condition.
Police have indicated that the Infiniti was traveling at a high rate of speed prior to crashing into the guardrail. Half of the vehicle slammed into another vehicle. A dump truck on the exit ramp had to slam on its brakes in order to avoid the crash, but that caused it to strike an additional five vehicles stopped by the accident.
Those who were additionally injured in the accident were transported to Elmhurst Hospital Center and Queens Hospital Center with a variety of injuries.
Investigators say that it is unclear whether any of the fatalities in the accident had been wearing seatbelts.
The family and loved ones of these families have undeniably suffered a tragic loss. It may take a while before the investigation is finalized and determining fault can also be complicated. Before that, it will be difficult for the loved ones of these three people to pick up the pieces. In such a case, especially with the loss of life and the number of people injured, having an attorney who is both compassionate and committed is important.
