A female pedestrian was struck by a car and killed on Saturday evening in Hicksville, Long Island. Leema Karnati, 48, who lived in Hicksville, was crossing Newbridge Road near Elmira Street at a section without a crosswalk or traffic signal, when she was struck by a 1992 Lincoln headed south down Newbridge Road. She was pronounced dead a half hour later.
This sad turn of events is just another reminder to us of how dangerous Long Island’s roads can be. We as Long Islanders need to consciously become aware of how dangerous our roads can be, and how many injuries are caused by reckless driving/walking every day. Many intersections on Long Island lack stop signs, and many highways are narrow and curvy.
