Freeport Man Accused of DWI with Boy in Vehicle

Posted on Aug 22, 2011

Early Sunday morning, a 48-year-old Freeport man was arrested for drunken driving with a 15-year-old boy as a passenger on the Southern State Parkway in North Merrick, New York State police said. Because of the underage passenger, he was charged with driving while intoxicated as a felony, rather than a misdemeanor,  under Leandras’ Law, endangering the welfare of a child.

Troopers pulled over the vehicle driven by Hector Barrientos at 2:19 a.m. for making unsafe lane changes westbound on the parkway near exit 24, Merrick Avenue, police said. He was given an alcohol test and found to have a blood alcohol content of 0.13 percent, police said.
