According to police investigators, the accident occurred at approximately 5:00 p.m. when the vehicle that as carrying Zaalika Rasool and her daughter in the back seat, a 2010 Toyota Corolla, was struck by a BMW X5 that failed to stop at a sign located near 115th Avenue and 130th Street in Ozone Park.
Police say that after striking the Corolla, the BMW struck three parked cars before coming to a stop.
Investigators say that Rasool, 40, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident while Rasool's daughter was taken to Long Island Jewish Medical Center and is currently listed in critical condition.
Two additional people were in the Toyota according to police. One passenger, a 71-year-old man, was also taken to a hospital. The 47-year-old driver of the Corolla was uninjured in the fatal crash.
Police say that a passenger in the BMW was also taken to the hospital for treatment.
