Around 40 people were in the store when the small tractor fell 30 feet to the floor, injuring the driver and four others. Much of the roof gave way as well.
One person reported seeing water, then feeling the ground shake before the roof collapsed. He thought it was an earthquake at first. Luckily for the people hurt, none of the injuries appear to be life-threatening. However, there is so much debris that officials won’t be sure everyone is safe until it is all removed.
The building is condemned for now.
Building roofs can only hold so much weight, and a bobcat tractor is a heavy piece of equipment. Why was it on the roof at the first place? Perhaps it was installing a new HVAC system or other facilities appliance, but for such a dangerous task the store should have been closed and the roof inspected prior to installation. Whoever owns this property is going to have a lot to face up to.
