A birthday celebration has turned into a night of tragedy when a two-vehicle accident in Queens resulted in the death of one young woman and left six injured early Sunday morning.
Authorities say that Desray Leroy, 23, along with six other people in an Audi Sedan, was struck by the driver of a Honda Civic near the corner of 120th Street and Linden Boulevard in South Ozone Park at approximately 4:30 a.m.
Video footage of the accident has been released and shows the collision of the two vehicles. The Audi flipped onto its roof and crashed into a wall. A spokesperson for the NYPD said that the driver of the Audi had run a stop sign at the intersection just seconds before the crash occurred.
Leroy suffered head trauma in the crash and was pronounced dead at Jamaica Hospital. Four men and Leroy’s 21-year-old sister were also taken to Jamaica hospital. The driver of the Audi was critically injured and was taken to Elmhurst hospital.
The driver of the Honda has been identified as Ray Mouton, 53. Mouton was arrested at the scene of the fatal crash for aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle.
Just prior to the crash, Snapchat video was taken of Desray Leroy dancing and celebrating her younger sister’s birthday out on the town. She had just recently graduated from a radiology program and had plans to take care of her mother.
