A Brooklyn garage became the scene where a 4-year-old boy was seriously injured when he wandered away from his parents and fell three stories down an elevator shaft.
According to police, the accident happened at approximately 8:00 p.m. when the child fell some 50 feet in the seven-story garage located on Union Street by Seventh Avenue in Park Slope on Wednesday.
The child dropped through a gap between the elevator and the elevator shaft that is used to transport motor vehicles. Eyewitnesses say that the child was still conscious when FDNY arrived on the scene.
The child was transported to Methodist Hospital with what is described as unspecified trauma. The child expected to recover from his fall.
City Buildings Department officials said that the accident is under investigation.
Children are naturally inquisitive and every parent knows in just a blink of an eye, a young child can get themselves into trouble and get hurt. It doesn’t help, however, when adequate safety measures are not taken in order to prevent a child or even an adult from being injured. This can be especially true of vehicles or even buildings owned by a city or municipality or other public entity.
If you or a loved one has suffered or been injured in an elevator accident, you have a right to receive compensation for any medical or hospital bills, insurance costs, time off of work or other related expenses and pain and suffering if you have been hurt.
