New York rolls out a very good online court site that will tell you where your case is in the legal process.

Today most public documents are online. In New York if you have a legal matter that is brought into the court system your case can be found online at the New York Unified Court System. Before the online system was in place in order to find out about your case you would have to go the actual court that the case is pending in. For example if your case was pending in Manhattan you would have to go to 60 Centre Street in lower Manhattan and head down to the basement. Once you got there you would file a written request to see your file and then make copies of what you want. Thankfully, because of the age of the internet the New York Unified Court System now gives anybody the ability to logon and enter the index number of any case or even a name and find a file. So if your case was filed in court you should be able to find it. For most cases that have been filed in the last few years there is much information to be found. Conference dates, motions and even decisions (which you can print out) are only some of things you can find.

In some counties in the metropolitan area the county clerk has individual websites that are even better than the New York Unified System. Here is a list of some of the individual county clerk online sites:
1.New York County Clerk (Manhattan)
2.Bronx County Clerk
3.Kings County Clerk
4.Nassau County Clerk
5.Suffolk County Clerk
The remaining metropolitan counties use the default New York Unified Court System database. The point here is that you can now view your accident case online and see what stage its at. This will help you verify what your lawyer is telling you and it will also guide so that you know the timeline of what's occuring.
