What You Need to Know if Your High School Child is Injured at a Drinking Party

Goldstein and Bashner | High School Student Injury

As the weather heats up and the school season is over, we see a significant increase in young adult car accident rates. More kids are driving and going out to celebrate—prom, graduation, end of classes, warm weather–all too often with parties that involve alcohol.

What Can You Do to Help Your Child During Summer?

If you are a parent to a teenager, it is important to communicate and teach them to make wise and safe decisions. Discuss the rules and consequences of drinking. Listen to them, check in with what is going on with them and their friends on social media like Twitter and Facebook, and let them know they can come to you with a problem. Emphasize that they should never get in a car with a driver who has been drinking, that they should call you at any time if they need a ride.

Most importantly, let your child you do not approve of underage drinking and never host a party for your child and their friends that involves alcohol.

Was Your Child Injured in an Accident after Drinking at a Friend’s House Party?

It’s hard enough to learn your child was injured in an accident, but it can be even more difficult when you discover it was caused by teen drinking. You may be angry, disappointed as well as upset and worried. We understand all these emotions you may be feeling, but it is important for you to know that you have rights. When homeowners allow minors to drink in their house, they can be held responsible for any injuries and accidents that are caused as a result. This includes drunk driving accidents, but also assaults, alcohol poisoning and serious slip and falls.

Goldstein and Bashner When it comes to the capacity to generate profound upheaval and anguish in the lives of those involved, almost nothing rivals a serious personal injury event stemming from the negligence of others. The physical suffering, financial pressures and family strain that so often result from such circumstances can seem insurmountable unless justice and accountability can be obtained from those responsible.
